Meet Pratik Patel, Hone’s Director of Program Operations

Pratik Patel is Hone’s Director of Program Operations, where he’s in charge of ensuring every customer has a meaningful and life-changing learning experience with Hone. At the root of this role, Pratik is responsible for ensuring the company grows sustainably and efficiently.

He also oversees our coach operations, ensuring we properly recruit, train, and support our all-star coaches and learner operations team, so they can give our learners and clients the best learning experience possible. On top of that, Pratik also leads Hone’s business operations functions, which handle strategic planning as well as analysis & reporting — two arms of the business that are both critical for maintaining our incredible growth rate.

Pratik is also no stranger to the world of ed-tech, having been one of the first employees at CourseHorse. To learn more about his ed-tech history and experience with scaling business, we sat down with Pratik. Here’s what he had to say:

What was your professional journey before Hone?

I started my career in management consulting, which allowed me to learn the basics of business strategy and process development. I was always an admirer of entrepreneurship and my mentor actually pushed me to leave consulting and join an early stage, ed-tech startup CourseHorse as employee #2. Growing with the company, I led the sales, customer service, and operations teams to become VP of Operations & Strategy — owning the P&L of a business that grew 50% annually during my tenure.

I then joined an enterprise software startup called Centrl that the same mentor created. There, I led their pre- and post-sales support teams as Director of Professional Services. While working directly with our customers, I identified an opportunity to add more value through a managed services product offering. I was then promoted to GM, Managed Services to launch this new business line which I grew to $3MM ARR in just two years.

Why did you join Hone?

When I first spoke to Savina and Tom, Hone’s co-founders, they spoke of their vision to create a generation of “measurably better managers” with such genuine enthusiasm and passion that I knew immediately I had to join their rocketship. Aside from that, larger cultural trends around the move to remote work, the Great Resignation, and the need for DEIB initiatives have created the perfect opportunity for our organization to grow and have a meaningful impact on the world.

How do you think your past experience has helped you at Hone?

I plan to use my past experience scaling various functions at CourseHorse and Centrl to help me contribute to Hone’s growth. We want to be able to provide the same incredible experience for our learners as we rapidly expand our size and impact. Maintaining sustainable growth will be increasingly important as we continue to expand our content and presence across the globe.

How is Hone different from other places you’ve worked?

In a word: culture!  Ask any Honie about it and they’ll tell you how incredible the people, organization, and values are at Hone. There is a genuine and infectious enthusiasm for our mission of reimagining training for the modern workplace—and that is rare to find.

What’s your number one leadership or management tip?

Trust your team. Whether that be at the micro level, where new managers will too often do all of the thinking themselves only leaving task execution to their team, or at the macro level, where executives hide behind opaque metrics instead of being fully transparent with their organization. You pay your workers well so that you can utilize their brain power — so make sure that you actually do so!

What do you like to do outside of work?

I love spending time with family and friends, traveling, golfing, and exploring the beautiful Bay Area.
